PhillyCYou're Simply Not Good EnoughDisturbing news, kids. It turns out I've discovered an application on Facebook that will update your status for you so that it says something that's supposed to be clever and funny. This application also provides words of wisdom and pithy statements but that, my dear friends, is not what I am taking issue with at the moment. You see, I am a creator of what could be called funny. I attempt, at every juncture of my life, to take the boring or mundane and turn it on its side so that people may laugh at it and bring joy into their lives. If I fail, then at least the attempt was made and still no real harm has been done...but I digress...

I had never really put myself up on a pedestal before, not thinking I was some kind of special person. I always thought that everyone had the capability to make humor. I just thought that this was a passion of mine that I exercised more frequently than others. Until now, I did not realize the truly uncreative paralysis that has the general public in a vice grip so tight that we actually need to rely on some randomly generated program that will grant us the ability to appear comical and interesting. Perhaps this was an ignorant notion on my part, or maybe I was just being optimistic or simple...but whatever the reason I had not caught this before, I should have.

This saddens me, readers. To see an art form such as comedy being packaged, sticker slapped and spoon fed to you in such a deceptive way that literally makes me grit my teeth both in anger and sorrow. Comedy is not a commodity, it should not be manufactured or simply passed on for popularity. Comedy is meant to relieve tension, bring happiness and make you forget what's been bugging you for a while. It is meant to break down boundaries by pushing the envelope and making that which we find disturbing easier to tolerate. It is not meant to be some mechanism used in order to make people think that you're clever. That is deception, plain and simple. If you aren't interesting enough to create something original for people to enjoy, that is perfectly fine, but in order to allow those of us who have that ability to continue to entertain you, you should not resort to prepackaged pseudo-humor that allows you to appear to be something you're not.

Please, my little darlings...awaken. We need you now...we need you to start creating and being productive because I promise you we truly funny people will not be here forever if you don't. We will die out eventually and all that you'll be left with is some reheated fart joke left on someone's status update. That world makes me sad...and I hope it is not the actual future.
